Food and Drug Administration has approved its drug, Mucotrol, to treat mucositis that may be caused by radiation or chemotherapy

Mucotrol™ is a concentrated oral gel wafer formulation. When slowly dissolved in the mouth, Mucotrol™ forms a coating on the oral mucosal surface, resulting soothing oral lesions, including oral mucositis that may be caused by chemotherapy or radiotherapy. Mucotrol is formulated as a slow-dissolving wafer for the convenience of the user. Unlike other products, no water is required for the usage of this product.

Indications: Mucotrol ™ concentrated oral gel wafer has a mechanical action indicated for the management of pain and relief of pain, by adhering to the mucosal surface of the mouth, soothing oral lesions of various etiologies, including: Oral Mucositis/Stomatitis (may be caused by chemotherapy or radiotherapy), irritation due to oral surgery and traumatic ulcers caused by braces or ill fitting dentures or disease. Also indicated for diffuse apthous ulcers.

Ingredients: Sorbitol, Cyamopsis tetragonolobus, Stearic acid, Magnesium stearate, Aloe sp., Natural & Artificial Flavors, Acesulfame K, Glycyrrhiza glabra (Deglycyrrhizinated), Centella asiatica, Polygonum cuspidatum, Angelica sp., and Camella sinensis.

Special precautions for use: Avoid eating or drinking for at least one hour after use. If no improvement is noticed after 7 days, consult a physician.

Contraindications: The administration of Mucotrol™; is contraindicated in any patient with a known or suspected hypersensitivity to any of its ingredients.

Interaction with other medicinal products and other forms of interaction: There are no known interactions with medicinal or other products.

Warning: Federal law restricts Mucotrol™; to sale by or on the order of a physician or properly licensed practitioner.

Side effects: The product is not recommended for use in patients with a known or suspected allergy to any of the product’s ingredients.

Store at controlled room temperature 15o-30 o C (59 o-86 o F). Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not refrigerate.
Overdose: At the time of producing this leaflet no cases of overdose have been reported.
